چکیده
Objective To evaluate the performance of dual internally cooled wet tip (ICWT) radiofrequency electrodes in comparison to (ICT) electrodes. Methods Twenty ablation zones were created for each type electrodes. Planned procedure time was 6 min. Diameters zone along x-, y-, and z-axes (Dx, Dy, Dz), sphericity, quantitative sphericity measurement, volume measured compared between two electrode types. Circularity on surface with x- z- axes (zx plane) amount energy applied also compared. Results Dx Dz significantly longer ICWT than those ICT (Dx: 3.0 vs. 2.8 cm, p = .018; Dz: 2.7 2.3 < .001, respectively). Dy not different (3.0 2.9 .220). Moreover, 85% (17/20) 30% (6/20) from spherical (p .001), respectively. Quantitative measurement showed that more (0.962 0.881, .001). The higher (11.55 9.45 cm3, .003). zx plane circular (0.907 0.883, .028). bigger (18508 16998 WS, .003).Conclusion Dual better able create larger

Multipolar radiofrequency ablation with internally cooled electrodes: experimental study in ex vivo bovine liver with mathematic modeling.
PURPOSE To evaluate the size and geometry of thermally induced coagulation by using multipolar radiofrequency (RF) ablation and to determine a mathematic model to predict coagulation volume. MATERIALS AND METHODS Multipolar RF ablations (n = 80) were performed in ex vivo bovine livers by using three internally cooled bipolar applicators with two electrodes on the same shaft. Applicators were ...
متن کاملComparison of Internally Cooled Wet Electrode and Hepatic Vascular Inflow Occlusion Method for Hepatic Radiofrequency Ablation
BACKGROUND/AIMS Various strategies to expand the ablation zone have been attempted using hepatic radiofrequency ablation (RFA). The optimal strategy, however, is unknown. We compared hepatic RFA with an internally cooled wet (ICW) electrode and vascular inflow occlusion. METHODS EIGHT DOGS WERE ASSIGNED TO ONE OF THREE GROUPS: only RFA using an internally cooled electrode (group A), RFA using...
متن کاملFeatures : Cooled Tip Catheter Ablation
Just over a decade ago, the advent of tip temperature monitoring during radiofrequency (RF) energy delivery marked the beginning of a second generation of ablation catheter technology and furthered the success of catheter ablation as a therapeutic tool. RF generators were designed with a closed-loop feedback system to automatically adjust power output to avoid temperatures that would cause coag...
متن کاملConvective cooling effect on cooled-tip catheter compared to large-tip catheter radiofrequency ablation.
BACKGROUND Both actively cooled-tip and large-tip catheters are currently available clinically to create large endomyocardial lesions during application of radiofrequency (RF) energy. The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of convective cooling at physiologic flow rates on RF lesion size using both actively cooled and large-tip catheters. METHODS Porcine hearts were sectioned int...
متن کاملCatheter ablation of ventricular epicardial tissue: a comparison of standard and cooled-tip radiofrequency energy.
BACKGROUND Transthoracic epicardial catheter ablation is an emerging catheter ablation strategy being used clinically at increasing frequency. However, the efficacy of standard RF ablation on the epicardial surface of the heart is hindered by (1) the lack of convective cooling of the ablation electrode and (2) the varying presence of epicardial adipose tissue interposed between the ablation ele...
